We have a vibrant learning community with children and adults from all over the world. There are around 380 pupils with 16 different languages spoken. We are very proud of the relationships between staff and children, and the warm, supportive environment that gives us a ‘small school’ feel.
Thoresby is a school at the cutting edge of educational practice. A skill based curriculum is currently being developed that supports and challenges all levels of ability. We follow the Early Years Curriculum in the Foundation Stage and implement the National Literacy and Numeracy strategies in Key Stages 1 and 2. Personalised learning is well developed and the children are given clear guidance on how to improve their learning.
There are many areas of strength in our curriculum. Specialist music is taught by the peripatetic teachers and our music co-ordinator, Mrs Winfield. Many instruments are used and we have a school choir and orchestra. PE is another area of strength, with a specialist sports coach leading PE lessons in KS2.
There are many extra-curricular clubs available, covering a range of interests from crafts to sports. A Kids’ Club operates from the site from 3pm to 6pm and during the school holidays. A free breakfast club is provided every morning from 8am.
